Current Trials

Pfizer C4771002 — Phase 3 C. difficile Vaccine (BEETHOVEN)

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of an investigational C. difficile vaccine.

Potential participants: Adults aged 65 years or older with qualifying risk factors for C. difficile infection. These may include recent hospitalizations, frequent healthcare visits, or qualifying antibiotic exposure. Additional medical and vaccination-history criteria apply.

AstraZeneca D7960C00015 — Phase 3 Cardiovascular (AZURE-Outcomes)

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating the investigational oral PCSK9 inhibitor AZD0780 for reducing major cardiovascular events.

Group 1 — Established cardiovascular disease: Adults aged 18 years or older with a qualifying history of myocardial infarction, ischemic stroke, or lower-limb revascularization for symptomatic peripheral artery disease. LDL cholesterol requirements and additional risk factors depend on medical history and the timing of cardiovascular events.

Group 2 — Increased cardiovascular risk: Men aged 50 years or older and women aged 55 years or older without specified prior ASCVD events, with LDL-C of at least 100 mg/dL and qualifying evidence of atherosclerosis or high-risk diabetes. Additional risk factors may be required.

Participants must also meet the study’s background lipid-lowering treatment and other eligibility requirements.

AstraZeneca D7261C00003 — Phase 3 Type 2 Diabetes (Eluminate-5)

A randomized, double-blind study evaluating elecoglipron combined with dapagliflozin compared with either medication alone in adults with type 2 diabetes.

Potential participants: Adults aged 18 years or older with type 2 diabetes diagnosed at least 90 days before screening, HbA1c between 7.0% and 10.5%, and BMI of at least 23 kg/m².

Participants may qualify with diabetes managed by lifestyle measures or qualifying stable background glucose-lowering treatment. Stable body weight and additional medical criteria apply.

AstraZeneca D7265C00001 — Phase 3 Chronic Kidney Disease (Elevate-CKD)

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating whether elecoglipron improves kidney-related outcomes in adults with chronic kidney disease.

Potential participants: Adults aged 18 years or older with confirmed chronic kidney disease, with or without type 2 diabetes.

Participants must meet qualifying kidney-function and urine albumin measurements, including UACR of at least 30 mg/g and eGFR of at least 20 mL/min/1.73 m² within study-defined ranges. Background kidney-protective treatment and other medical eligibility requirements apply.

AstraZeneca D8750C00014 — Phase 3 Obesity / Overweight (SELENE 1)

A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluating the efficacy and safety of investigational AZD6234 for weight management.

Potential participants: Adults aged 18 years or older without type 2 diabetes who have:

  • BMI of at least 30 kg/m²; OR
  • BMI of at least 27 kg/m² with at least one qualifying weight-related medical condition, such as hypertension, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, or knee osteoarthritis.

Participants must have maintained relatively stable weight for at least three months and have a history of at least one unsuccessful weight-loss attempt. Additional criteria apply.

General information

Phases of clinical trials:

When clinical research is used to evaluate medications and devices clinical trials are a kind of clinical research designed to evaluate and test new interventions such as psychotherapy or medications. Clinical trials are often conducted in four phases. The trials at each phase have a different purpose and help scientists answer different questions.
